RULES OF THE ROAD OF MONGOLIA
8. Position of vehicles
8.1. The number of lines is defined by markings on the carriageway or by signs 5.10.а,б and 5.11.а,б. If there are no such signs and markings, the number of lanes are defined taking into consideration the width of carriageways, the width of motor vehicles and the side interval them and, if there is two-way traffic, the half of the given carriageway width on the left-hand side is considered as devoted for an oncoming traffic.
8.2. It is prohibited to drive against oncoming traffic flow on two-way carriageways having two lanes except the case for overtaking or driving around.
8.3. If the middle lane of a road with three traffic lanes divided with markings is for oncoming traffic, it is allowed to enter this road just for overtaking, driving around, turning to the left or making U-turn, but it is prohibited to drive against the oncoming traffic flow on the left-hand side lane.
8.4. It is prohibited to drive against the oncoming traffic flow on two-way carriageways having four and more lanes.
8.5. Vehicles should be driven as closer as possible to the right-hand side edge of the carriageway on a road outside of built-up area or on a road with signs 5.1 and 5.5 installed and it is prohibited to drive on either lane on the left-hand side when the right-hand side lane is free (in other cases excluding taking a position for turning to the left-hand side or for the U-turn).
8.6. In the built-up areas, drivers have to select and drive through any of appropriate lanes without violating the requirements mentioned in 8.7-8.10 and 23.4. It is prohibited to change the lane and position in cases excluding the cases of turning action, driving around obstacles and stopping on roads with high density of traffic (busy lanes).
8.7. It is allowed to take a position on the most left-hand side lane of the given direction on roads having three or more lanes for one direction only to overtake, turn to the left, make a U-turn or when the density of traffic is high (other lanes are busy). But it is prohibited for goods vehicles with the permissible maximum mass of more than 3.5 ton to enter this lane except the case taking a position for turning to the left or making U-turn.
If the above road is one-way carriageways, it is allowed to enter the most left-hand side lane for standing.
8.8. Tractors, self-propelled vehicles and vehicles moving at a speed of not more than 40 km per hour should move through the most right-hand side lane of the carriageway except the case of overtaking, driving around and taking a position for turning to the left-hand side or making a U-turn.
8.9. On motorways, goods vehicles with the permissible maximum mass of more than 3.5 ton should move through the first or second lane on the right-hand side of the carriageway.
8.10. It is prohibited for drivers of trolley-buses to enter the adjacent lane when a trolley-bus ahead of them is not disconnected from the electric line.
8.11. Drivers should select, depending on the traffic speed, a distance in-between and side interval enough not to collide with a vehicle ahead of them when it stops and not to touch vehicles on their sides.
